The electronic keyboard: the influence and endless
I remember when my family bought our electric keyboard. I must have been about ten years, I remember me and have thought that our family would be the coldest one in the block. All the different sounds that can be done! All the different rhythms that could produce! He was sure that would be done by professional sounding music in no time. Of course, as I soon discovered, there are more than playing an electric keyboard just wasting time with the buttons and keys. An electronic keyboard, or more accurately, synthesizer, and produces a wide variety of sounds by generating and combining signals of different frequencies. These frequencies are converted into electrical signals that are then amplified by speakers. Unsurprisingly, the electronic keyboard has its roots in instruments such as piano and harpsichord, instruments that have existed for hundreds years. The modern synthesizer, however, only came into existence in the mid-1970s, thirty years ago. Since then, electronic keyboards had an incalculable effect on the music industry and culture.
When artists such celebrities as Stevie Wonder and popular bands such as Duran Duran began to make regular use of this instrument, its place in the music industry has become an accepted fact. Indeed, the synthesizer is credited with the rise of synthpop type, a subgenre of New Wave, during the 1970s and the mid-1980s. While some of the most popular songs 1980s have the sounds of the synthesizer, issues such as Tainted Love by Soft Cell, Just Can not Get Enough by Depeche Mode, and of course the hymn of 80 years, Whip It by Devo.
